Cub Scout Blue and Gold Banquet {Carnival}

Just thought I would finally post pictures from our blue and gold banquet.  We decided to have a carnival theme.  Mostly because we thought serving hot dogs would be easy!

On the back wall of the gym we wanted to set up a display for the boys to show off what they have done in scouts the past year.
I took pictures of the boys dressed like clowns the weeks previous and printed them to hang on the wall.  I also had fans that I had used for previous occasions that I was just able to add cute centers to from Catch My Party.
Love that I got to hang them with mustache washi tape.
I made these pinwheel centerpieces a few years ago for the blue and gold banquet.  Then I have just been able to add to them for whatever theme we have.  This year I made some red/white stripe to go with them and cut out some mustaches on my Silhouette.  We also had popcorn, animal crackers and peanuts and mints for table scatter.
I had made this "concessions" sign for a family reunion a few years ago.  It still worked out nicely.  We also had a sign that said "Pack 407" at the entrance to the gym (didn't get a pic).
We served hot dogs and chips... easy peasy.

We had each den come up with a game that would help the boys with one of their achievements or electives.
Our wolves came up with a ring toss and a ball toss in cans.
The bears did a bean bag toss... the boys even painted the lion themselves.
And I used my mustache washi tape to mark off on the floor where they could throw from.
The Webelos den had a photo booth... My amazing Webelos leader had a lot of props and the kids and adults had a blast posing for the camera.
And to finish the night, we had cotton candy!
The boys and families had a good time!

Families are Forever {Primary Bulletin Board}

I thought I would share the bulletin board that I made for our primary.

The theme this year is Families are Forever.  Our goal as a primary was to include the family in our primary more.  One of the things that we have done is to have a family spotlight every week. Each family in the ward brings their whole family into primary (YW/YM, parents, etc.)  They introduce themselves, tell something about their family and tell a spiritual experience they have had as a family.
To go along with this theme I made a bulletin board in the hallway that has pictures of the family.

I love taking a scrapbook layout and making it into a bulletin board.  I took my idea from this layout on American Crafts Studio.

Summer Scrapbooking

I don't have time to blog any more... I really don't.  But for some reason, now that school has started, I thought I would do a little blog catch up of some of the crafty things I did over the summer.

I love to scrapbook... crafting is fun, but I love to scrapbook.  And every summer, I plan on getting tons of scrapbooking done since I don't work in the summer... but, I have kids to entertain and play with, so I don't get any scrapbooking done... It's okay, I'll get caught up some day:)

Here are the pages that I worked on.  I think I got all of 2011 finished, so I can start working on 2012.
A halloween party I did for my kids.
The Jubilee of Trees... held the weekend before Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving... love layouts where I can fit tons of pix.
My hubby's birthday is in December.
Christmas Eve we went to Zion national park.
2 page spread of Christmas 2011
And the very last page of 2011... New Year's Eve

I still really love my little 6x6 albums I make for my kids.  Easy, simple quick layouts.  I don't put a lot in them, but sometimes there's just a picture that I take that needs to be saved... love this little boy.

Lastly, because I do two page spreads, there is always a page at the beginning of the album and end of the album that is a single page.  I try to put our family pix in those spaces... this is from 2009.  I had a few missing holes in some of my scrapbooks.

Gift Card Bouquet

My brother-in-law got remarried over this past weekend.  What do you give to someone on their 2nd wedding???  The best I could come up with was a gift card.  I didn't want to just give them a gift card..... I wanted to make it cute.  I talked with most of the rest of the family and I got them on board too.

I used my Cricut Designer's Calendar cartridge and cut out tulips that were 4".  I cut out two for each flower.  I glued them just on the sides and bottom with a wooden skewer inside.  That left the top open for the gift card to slip inside.  I then just stuck them in a vase with some twine tied to the vase and a tag.  It turned out really cute and was a fun gift idea.

I had about a million projects going on a Christmas and just not time to blog. Once Christmas was over, I really wanted to spend some time scrapbooking. I'm trying to get caught up on last year... good luck to me.

Here are a few 12x12 2 page spreads that I've been working on.

A few Scrapbook pages

I just thought I'd post a few scrapbook pages that I made a few months back... before I started on a million other projects and haven't had time to scrapbook. I'm trying to get them all finished so that I can get back to scrapbooking again.
I love the crossword puzzle paper... and I love circles:)

I love it when I get the chance to do anything girly... and with those shorts.... I had a great color palate!!!

Scholes Circus

Welcome to the.....
It all began when I saw this article in my June 2011 article of Scrapbooks Etc.

I just couldn't get over how cute everything was... what a fun idea for a family reunion. So, I talked to my mother in law about doing something with a theme. We decided on a Circus theme because... Circus stuff is really "cool" right now and because, well... the Scholes family really is a circus... it seemed so appropriate.

I was in charge of our photo booth. I simple sat up our cool shower tent.
I used a plastic table cloth from Walmart as the backdrop and my cool red wooden chair.
Then I put together a bunch of props for people to use. (apparently with a goatee I look like my little brother).
We had a lot of fun activities... like face painting...
Carnival games...
Cotton candy... (I found a cotton candy machine at a yard sale... I'm awesome!)
And I had a lot of fun making banners for decoration. This one I totally copied from the magazine article. I made a banner piece for every member of the family... that's 40!
I thought it would be fun to have a few banners to locate different areas of the circus.

I completely ran out of time, but I think we are going to save this stuff and continue the tradition. Next year, I'll add the bingo cards and maybe come up with some sort of fun table centerpieces... who knows.

I've been scrapbooking

I'm in the mood to scrapbook. I sneak down to my craft room and do a little here and there. Sometimes all I do is pick my papers... sometimes I crop a few pictures, but little by little the pages come together. Here are a few of my favorites...

Shrinky Dinks

I've become a scrounge.... I'm digging through garbage:)... in a way. At my school I teach a remediation class during lunch. The students have 45 minutes to work on assignments, take tests, write essays, etc. At the end of the 45 minutes they are given a box lunch. Well, one of my co-workers told me that you could make "shrinky dinks" out of the plastic lunch boxes. Do you know what shrinky dinks are? Well, you're about to find out!
So, I took the boxes and cut the plastic top and bottom out of them to make square sheets. Then I used the die cutting machine at my school to cut out the shape of a clover. I used my circle cutter to cut the circles in the middle. This piece of plastic is about 4" square and the circles in the middle are about the size of a dime.

The next step is to bake them in the oven at 325 degrees. Put them on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. They will cook for about 3-4 minutes. They will curl up and shrink. When they start to lie flat again, they are done.
When you are finished, you will end up with these cute clear embellishments. They are much smaller than the original size. They are now stiff and about the thickness of a nickel. You can tell by the size of my thumb and ribbon how small they are!
You can use them on your scrapbook pages, or make jewelry, or on a cute banner like I did here.

The science teacher in me is ready to experiment! Let's see what I come up with next!!!
