Blue and Gold "Pow Wow" Banquet

I love Scouts.  I have 3 boys and plan on spending a lot of time in Scouts.  I am currently the Unit Commission, Scout Committee Chair and the Wolf Den Leader.  Did I say that I love scouts?

I wasn't in charge of the Blue and Gold Banquet this year, but it turns out that two of my best friends are the Cub Scout Committee Chair and Cubmaster, so I got to help plan the banquet.

Feathers, arrows and all things tribal are kind of a big deal in decorating right now.  What a better theme to have for cub scouts, than a Pow Wow!!!

I designed the invitations in Photoshop elements.  We wanted to use blue and gold, but more specifically gold glitter and add other colors of blue.
For the envelopes, I cut a feather on my Silhouette Cameo and added a little washi tape.
Centerpieces on the tables were wooden tree slices.  We had mason jars with beads tied around the top.  Inside the jars were feather arrows.  Some were blue, others were white or natural color with gold glitter tips.  Along with the jars, we either had antlers, succulents or teepees.
We decorated this backdrop with craft paper and washi tape.
I also made a few basic dream catchers.
I made a make shift teepee out of just 1x2 boards and some twine tied at the top.  I used old white sheets to cover it.  The leader who was presenting our Arrow of Light awards had the fake fire... it was the perfect touch.
Our main course was navajo tacos.  I didn't snap a shot of those.  For dessert we had donut holes with an arrow through them.
We also had teepee cupcakes with gold and blue sugar.  They turned out sooo cute!
We had a little "tee pee" trail mix snack.

We had a craft table where the boys (and family) could decorate a headress.
There was also a station where the boys could shoot the bow and arrows at a target.
And I really can't take credit for much!  My partners in crime really pulled this off and made it a fantastic night!!!

PS... my oldest son earned his Arrow of Light at the banquet and is moving on to Boy Scouts!!!  I'm excited to start on this new adventure.
PPS... red pants looks awesome with the yellow scout shirt!!!

Cub Scout Blue and Gold Banquet {Carnival}

Just thought I would finally post pictures from our blue and gold banquet.  We decided to have a carnival theme.  Mostly because we thought serving hot dogs would be easy!

On the back wall of the gym we wanted to set up a display for the boys to show off what they have done in scouts the past year.
I took pictures of the boys dressed like clowns the weeks previous and printed them to hang on the wall.  I also had fans that I had used for previous occasions that I was just able to add cute centers to from Catch My Party.
Love that I got to hang them with mustache washi tape.
I made these pinwheel centerpieces a few years ago for the blue and gold banquet.  Then I have just been able to add to them for whatever theme we have.  This year I made some red/white stripe to go with them and cut out some mustaches on my Silhouette.  We also had popcorn, animal crackers and peanuts and mints for table scatter.
I had made this "concessions" sign for a family reunion a few years ago.  It still worked out nicely.  We also had a sign that said "Pack 407" at the entrance to the gym (didn't get a pic).
We served hot dogs and chips... easy peasy.

We had each den come up with a game that would help the boys with one of their achievements or electives.
Our wolves came up with a ring toss and a ball toss in cans.
The bears did a bean bag toss... the boys even painted the lion themselves.
And I used my mustache washi tape to mark off on the floor where they could throw from.
The Webelos den had a photo booth... My amazing Webelos leader had a lot of props and the kids and adults had a blast posing for the camera.
And to finish the night, we had cotton candy!
The boys and families had a good time!

Pinewood Derby

I realized that I never posted the Pinewood Derby last year, so I thought I would post a little of both years.

We basically used a checkerboard theme for our derby.  We were able to find a few things at the dollar store and the rest of the stuff I made.

We hung a few flags on the doors coming into the gym.  These larger flags were found at the dollar store.
Around the track, we set up a barricade.  We didn't want the kids getting near the track.  We got small cones.  We actually taped them to the ground. Then, we taped the flags all along the track.  To make them, I just found a checkerboard clipart and made b/w copies on cardstock.
For centerpieces, I made a few fans/pinwheels.  I had made the blue and gold ones for a blue/gold banquet a few years ago... they come in really handy for all cub scout functions.  For the pinewood derby, I added a checkerboard one.
We used a few of them on the food table along with the larger banner from the dollar store.
I made these trophies last year.  I spray-painted a car gold, silver and bronze.  I painted a 2x4 block blue.  The plaque in the front I just made in photoshop.  I got it laminated and nailed it on there with small nails to make it look more like a real trophy plaque.
I put our pack # and the year on the trophy.
I had a good time making signs and awards.  These are all items I made last year.  I made a wide variety of awards so that every boy could get one.  (I am so sorry, but I can not find my list of awards... there were some really creative ones.)
I did not get pictures of these, but we had a weigh-in table.  This table had a scale, graphite, tools to fix cars, etc.  The boys checked in their cars...

...Then the placed them on the checked-in table.  On this table, I had black paper plates to put their cars on.
I also had a name card for the boys to write the name of their car.

We had all the boys and family members vote for "best of show" at this table.

Then, the races began....

I hope you find some of this stuff helpful.  Everything I made was in Photoshop Elements, please feel free to email me if you would like any of the files.  anisascholes at gmail dot com

Cub Scout Promise {Free Printable}

My second son just turned 8.  It's time to start working on the Cub Scout Promise with him so that he can earn his Bobcat.  (Now, my understanding is that the Cub Scout program is going to do away with the Cub Scout Promise and just have the boys learn the Boy Scout Promise.  However, my understanding is that will not take effect until 2015).  So, until then, I am going to have him memorize the Cub Scout Promise.  In order to do that, I wanted a printable that I could hang on my fridge.  That means you get it too!

You can download it here.  You may notice there is a blank spot at the top.  That is where you will write your son's name.  I think it would be really cute to have him write it in his own handwriting.

Welcome to the Jungle {safari pack meeting}

I love the leaders we have in cub scouts!  They are awesome! I am in the Primary Presidency in my ward.  I am the person who oversees the cub scouting program.  I have a son in cub scouts and I want it to be fun!  So, last night, my cubmaster and assistant cubmaster came up with a jungle theme for our pack meeting.  We had a lot of awards to give out... including 2 arrow of light awards.
So, we (my friend Haley and I) started by decorating the room to look like a jungle.  We took rolls of craft wrapping paper from the dollar store and cut them into 3rds.  Then we took the long strips and rolled them up to make the vines.  We cut leaves out of construction paper and hot glued them to the vines.
Haley did a great job of accessorizing everything with the vines and adding jungle stuffed animals.

We had a cheesy skit from a safari powwow book that we had in our cub scout stuff.  The skit had us going through the jungle and finding bobcats, wolves, bears, webelos, etc.  At each stop, the awards were given out.
After the awards, I had the kids (cub scouts and siblings) make binoculars and go on a treasure hunt.  I had painted toilet paper tubes black and hot glued them together.  The kids got to choose their duck tape color and tape the ribbon to their binoculars.
Then they took their binoculars and followed clues.
Their clues took them to a room by the kitchen where my amazing Webelos leader, Jenifer, had an a cute table of safari food set up.
My favorite was the gummy skewers.
And she had cute bags of animal crackers with labels on them!
It turned out so cute.  The kids had a good time and it was short and sweet:)
